Patients with cancer commonly have heart disease and its presence affects both length and quality of life. Furthermore, treatments for cancer commonly affect the heart and the presence of heart disease may limit treatment options. It has been recognised that there is a need for cardiologists and oncologists to co-operate to improve the outcomes for such patients.
This problem has been recognised already. The International CardiOncology Society was formed in Italy and America in 2009. We are attempting to form a similar society in the UK.
